You still haven't played some of the best Yakuza games on PlayStation? Let's find out!
Updated
Yakuza is basically a Grand Theft Auto that takes place in the streets of Japan. A characteristic part of all games is the exciting and varied story, which is told with many cutscenes and dialogues.
Most of the games in the series have a semi-open world in which you can explore a part of a city relatively freely. The main location is the red light district of Kamurocho, where the main character Kazuma Kiryu fights against the numerous villains of the Japanese underworld.
The gameplay essentially consists of two parts that define all Yakuza games: street fights and mini-games. To survive on the streets against criminals, you have to master light attacks, heavy attacks, combos, dodging and blocking. However, the combat system is easy to learn and allows smooth, cinematic battles against multiple opponents at the same time.
In the course of the story there are always bizarre situations and weird mini-games that you probably won't see in any other game. Kiryu has to sing greasy songs in karaoke bars, convince hostesses with his charm, find lost cats for a cat cafe or prove himself in a wide variety of sports. Strangely enough, these mini-games fit the world of Yakuza perfectly and are actually a lot of fun.
All yakuza games are in chronological order. So in order to experience the whole story from beginning to end, you have to start with Yakuza 0 and play Yakuza: Like a Dragon last. However, all games can also be enjoyed individually, as all games of the series are good and have a coherent story.
Here's our list of the best Yakuza games on PS4 and PS5 ranked from worst to best:
